At Laurel Heights we believe all children are important and valuable. One way we live out this commitment is providing and supporting programs that care for children in the times they are out of school.

Reading Buddies @ Cotton Elementary

Strong reading skills are the building block for so much of children’s academic success. We partner with Cotton Elementary and San Antonio Youth Literacy to provide reading buddies for students at nearby Cotton Elementary to support the development of this critical skill. If you would like to volunteer to read with a child for an hour you will need to pass a background check, if you have not already done so.  For more information email Kelley Sonnen or call Kelley at (210) 733-7156.

Laurel Heights Youth Center

SA Youth at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church addresses vital community concerns by providing free, safe alternative programs for middle school-age youth during critical, out-of-school time. The youth center is a collaborative effort between Laurel Heights UMC and SA Youth. For more information, contact SA Youth at (210) 223-3131.
